Bridal Henna Overview
My designs are a combination of intricate Indian patterns combined with flowery Arabic patters applied in a freestyle yet in a structured manner. Bridal designs are typically very intricate and elaborate and can entail anywhere from 1.5 hours to 7 hours for both hands and feet depending on the extent of the designs. The prices can range from $195 to $795 depending on the intricacy of the pattern and the extent of henna coverage. I am happy to customize designs based on preferences.
I have been blessed with this generational art and have had the fortune to decorate more than 1100 brides in my lifetime. My services have been utilized for celebrity weddings, platinum weddings and royal weddings. I am open to new ideas and will be happy to share and receive ideas so we can co-create a masterpiece unique to you for your special day.

Suggestions for the Bride:
* It is best to apply your henna two days prior to or a day before the event. The henna color takes 24-72 hours to darken, meaning it will change from orange to brown or burgundy in due time. Palms and feet tend to turn the darkest sooner than the backs of the hands or the upper arms.
*It is strongly advised to get the application either prior to the gathering/event or starting at least a few hours before guest arrive so as to reduce the distortions in the work due to the movements in and around us.
* Typically it is best to have your Henna applied the day before the Henna party/gathering in a relaxed setting. Bridal henna is very intricate and detailed and needs the utmost focus and precision. Reducing external stimuli will help make this process enjoyable and relaxing for both the bride and the artist.
* It will take anywhere from 1.5 hours to 7 hours for the simple to full extended bridal henna application depending on the style preferred. You may want to limit your water and caffeine intake so as to reduce the number of visits to the restroom.
* Manicure/ Pedicure should be before your henna application as this will interfere with the staining process and will lighten the henna.
* Hair removal treatments as well as any other body treatments are to be done a day prior to your henna application. To achieve fine lines and neat work the henna is "dropped and draped" and the presence of hair doesn't allow the henna to land on the skin.
* Do not apply any lotions or oils to your skin the day of your henna appointment. The skin has to be free of any oils or chemicals for optimal staining. Exfoliating the skin with a loofah or a mild scrub will remove the dead skin and will allow the henna designs to stay on the skin longer.
*If your body feels cold most of the time, henna will make it feel even more sensitive. You may want to have a heater next to you. Warmer the body/skin/area darker the henna stains. You may remember the myth of the darker staining caused by the deep love of the husband or the mother in law towards the bride? Well, it makes sense that the excitement of the events makes the blood circulate faster hence creating a slight internal rise in the body temperature resulting in a darker henna stain!
*Henna has to be kept away from water for a minimum of 24 hours. You will not be able to wash/shampoo your own hair until after the wedding and may need to arrange some help, Alternatively, you can cover your hands with long kitchen gloves and close the ends with a rubber bank to avoid any water from getting in. Please DO NOT cover your feet for safety. Feet tend to stain dark anyways as they are not used in the same capacity as our hands.
* After you scrape the henna off please apply Vicks VapoRub or Eucalyptus oil on your skin to darken the stain. Heat (hairdryer) will also aid in darkening the color.
I prefer that brides warm their hands on low heat on a pan with cloves the traditional way. Method: Warm a metal pan and place 10-15 whole cloves (Long/Lavang) on the pan, without oil or water. The cloves once hot will start to smoke lightly releasing the oils which will bind to the henna on the skin and make the stain even darker. Warm the hands in this smoke, especially the areas above the wrist. Please use precaution using this method.
